This week on the PRO-File Podcast I am so pleased to share the journey of Joe Poplawski. The man known by many as Joe “Pop” is one of the most genuine men I have ever met or had the pleasure of calling a friend.
Joe Poplawski was born and raised in Edmonton Alberta and was a natural athlete who excelled in hockey, soccer, football and pretty much anything he put his mind to. He earned a spot in the Western Hockey League at the age of 16 and soon realized that riding a bus and playing hockey with a bunch of grown men just wasn’t what he wanted to do. So he decide to give hockey up and focus on football and soccer and although he could have gone anywhere he wanted to for school he elected to stay at home close to his family and attend the University of Alberta.
Listen to Joe as he shares his story and describes the importance of family on his road to success. Everything from being a BB gun target for his brother and friends to the impact the his parents had on him every step of the way. Joe learned all the valuable lessons from his family as he grew up and has implemented these values into his own family with his wife of 34 years and his 3 successful boys.
It’s amazing how fate takes you out of your comfort zone as it did for Joe Poplawski when, as a young rookie, he was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for the a receiver named Tommy Scott in 1978 and as fate would have it, both men would go on to have amazing CFL careers and go into the CFL Hall of Fame 20 years later…together.
This is an episode that you don’t want to miss!!!
